Welcome to our Fantasy Football Start Em Sit Em concerns for Week 9. In the unpredictable world of fantasy football, we often face dilemmas that leave us scratching our heads. As we gear up for Week 9, it’s time to address some of these concerns that might be causing panic among fantasy managers.
Running Back Worries
Alexander Mattison – Minnesota Vikings
Alexander Mattison has been a reliable backup for Dalvin Cook, but his recent fantasy production has left much to be desired. Since Week 5, he hasn’t cracked double-digit fantasy points and managed a mere 31 rushing yards on 16 attempts in his latest outing. With Kirk Cousins sidelined, the Vikings may rely more on the running game, but tough matchups against the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints could dampen Mattison’s prospects. It might be wise to bench him until we see how the Vikings adjust.
Tony Pollard – Dallas Cowboys
Once considered an elite fantasy running back, Tony Pollard has fallen short of expectations recently. Despite the Cowboys’ explosive offense, Pollard managed just 55 yards with no touchdowns in a high-scoring game against the Los Angeles Rams. However, there’s still hope for Pollard as the Cowboys’ offense seems to be finding its rhythm. He continues to dominate touches in the backfield, making him a player worth keeping in your lineup.
Miles Sanders – Philadelphia Eagles
Miles Sanders has had a challenging season, with only one game of double-digit fantasy points. In Week 8, he managed a paltry two carries for zero yards, possibly hampered by a shoulder injury. Meanwhile, Chuba Hubbard has outperformed him in Sanders’ absence and appears to be the lead back. While it’s tempting to hold onto Sanders in hopes of a turnaround, his lackluster performance suggests that it might be safer to drop him in shallower redraft leagues.

Wide Receiver Worries
Cooper Kupp – Los Angeles Rams
Cooper Kupp, a fantasy superstar, has surprised us with two games of fewer than 30 receiving yards. This is unusual for Kupp, but it coincided with Matthew Stafford‘s thumb injury. While Stafford’s injury isn’t severe, the Rams might exercise caution, especially with their bye week approaching. If Brett Rypien starts in Week 9, it’s advisable to temper expectations for Kupp, possibly viewing him as a WR2, with Van Jefferson also affected.
Christian Watson – Houston Texans
Christian Watson has been inconsistent in fantasy production, with just one game of double-digit fantasy points this season. Although he saw eight targets in his recent game and has played a significant number of snaps, Watson’s lack of consistency raises concerns. Nevertheless, his big-play potential keeps him a viable option, especially in favorable matchups against the Steelers and Chargers in the coming weeks.
Nico Collins and Chris Conley – Houston Texans
Texans receivers Nico Collins and Chris Conley have struggled to deliver consistent fantasy production. While Collins has maintained a steady target share, his recent performance has been lackluster. On the other hand, Conley, despite ample playing time, hasn’t been productive since Week 3. Stashing them on your bench might be the best strategy, but if you’re in shallow leagues and need to make waiver claims, it might be time to consider dropping them.
Fantasy football is a game of uncertainties, and these concerns don’t spell doom for these players. It’s crucial to assess your team’s specific needs and consider matchups when deciding whether to start, sit, or drop players.
